Lets get the parents involved!!
Hello Parents!
I really hope you are all excited to explore and learn more with your child during this learning adventure! The purpose of "Adventure’s in America’s National Parks" is to encourage our students to learn more about our national parks and their history and knowledge they can share with us. Students can learn more about conservation, history, planning, and safety. National parks are history in the making and your children can be apart of that! Each of the 400 plus national parks are packed with history, science, and adventure. You are never too old to learn new things, so I urge you to explore with your child through this adventure.
Through this project students will be navigating the Internet to learn more from their home. We all don’t have National parks near us, but we can still learn anywhere! In a few sections like “Hook” and “Explore” will require web exploration. Your children may need help with this depending on their familiarity with a computer. There are fun interactive quizzes and scavenger hunts to learn and find amazing new things about our beautiful country. In the “Lets plan a trip” section, students will be planning their own vacation to a national park of their choice. They will have to discover important information about their park and plan an itinerary. Although there is not a real vacation planned, if you have a chance to visit a national or state park, local or cross-country, your child can implement their newly found knowledge on this topic. I hope you enjoy this adventure with your child and explore the history and nature of the United States.
No additional books or educational materials are needed, but if your child wants to read more about National Parks I would recommend these books:
1 National Parks: Americas Best Ideas by Ken Burns
2 National Geographic Guide to National Parks in the United State, 6th edition by National Geographic
3 Ansel Adams: Our National Parks by Ansel Adams
Before you and your child start on the adventure, I would like to share the learning objectives addressed in “Adventure in America’s National Parks” that are listed in 4th grade science and social studies Georgia Performance Standards.
